Splice Section using a Plane

Splices sections using a plane created from a maximum of three identified points.

If you splice sections using a one point plane, the splice plane is defined by the working plane of the PowerCompass. Refer to PowerCompass™ for further information.

To set the PowerCompass orientation, select Use LCS on the PowerCompass.

Select an element to define the working plane. The example displays a defined working plane using a selected bracing element.

If you splice sections using a two point plane or three point plane, the splice plane is defined by the picked points without the need for the PowerCompass.

For the purposes of this guide, splicing using a three point plane is described.

On the Sections tab, in the Modify group, select Splice.

You are prompted to Select element(s) to splice

Note:
The prompt does not display if the section element is already selected.

You are then prompted to Select element(s) to splice or <Next>

Note:
The prompt does not display if the section element is already selected.

The prompt is repeated, allowing you to identify multiple sections to splice.

Enter N at the prompt and press Enter to specify the splice plane.

You are then prompted to Select panel to splice with or <Plane (1 point)>

Input 3 at the prompt and press Enter to specify the plane.

You are then prompted to Select first point or

Input values in the dimension fields and press Enter or click to identify the first point of the plane.

You are then prompted to Select second point or <Finish>

Input values in the dimension fields and press Enter or click to identify the second point of the plane.

You are then prompted to Select third point or <Finish>

Input values in the dimension fields and press Enter or click to identify the third point of the plane.

The sections are spliced at the intersection with the plane.

Throughout the splice process you can press ESC to cancel the command. Additional functionality is also available.

Next

Press the down arrow key and select Next to proceed to the next splice process.

Plane (1 point)

Press the down arrow key and select Plane (1 point) to splice a section using a plane defined by one picked point.

Plane (2 points)

Press the down arrow key and select Plane (2 points) to splice a section using a plane defined by two picked points.

Plane (3 points)

Press the down arrow key and select Plane (3 points) to splice a section using a plane defined by three picked points.

Back

Press the down arrow key and select Back to undo the last action.

Finish

Press the down arrow key and select Finish to end the command.

The new GENSEC elements display in the Model Explorer.
