Functionally distinct software component or module that executes in its own process space. The PI Server has several core subsystems such as Network Manager, Update Manager, Base, Snapshot, and Archive; a module called PI Net Manager that routes messages between subsystems; and other specialized modules such as pesched, PI SQL, PI Batch, and Totalizer.
